M.U.S.H.A.
ALESTE

Released
in 1990 by TOAPLAN, on MEGADRIVE this ROM cartridge has not struck
our minds enough but it's really History master-piece in the genre.
Everyone remenber the THUNDER FORCE series on SEGA 16 Bit, and
it's fair regarding the TECNOSOFT marvellous work, but less people
kept in their memories this incredible vertical shooting game,
the best in his domain on the machine, and I will not suffer contradiction
on that point as the production level of this ALESTE is far beyond
all other vertical scrolling shoot existing on MEGADRIVE. Scrollings,
animation, graphics, scenery, boss, music, everything is perfect
in this game (may be another upgraded difficulty level is lacking
in option, but I so often palyed this game that I wish I could
suffer a little bit more).

Music, let's
talk about it, brilliantly made in FM sound from MEGADRIVE, speedy,
catchy, and so well composed, I would even say in a metal way
hearing the sounds used, fast rythmics, and the carzy solos as
in "NOH SPECTER", I would like to see on day a band playing this
particular title (and if it's ALEXI LAIHO at guitar it would be
perfect), would be a great result. If you want some of these themes
re-composed in MIDI, please visit the MIDI section :

The
main programming great too, with many differential scrollings,
the MEGADRIVE is pushed hard to move this profusion of sprites,
sometimes enormous ones, I must stop the compliments or you will
figure out that I appreciate this shooting game more than some
actual games (but it's not my fault if COMPILE had programmed
what I think to be the best vertical shooting games ever, so some
may say I repeat myself in this site. I finished plenty of shooting
game in my life, and, believe me, in their domain COMPILE deserve
a world champion title, why do you think I'm doing this homepage?).
Concerning
the scenario, it seems that the artificial intelligence who bothered
humans in the first ALESTE episode is coming back, DIA 51 (or
DAIA 51) to name it. There's also a story about some sapce colony,
one thing for sure is that ELLINOR WAIZEN (the daughter of RAY)
is back too, commandind a small squadron. Mechanics have changed
since the time of ALESTE 2, she exchanged her air fighter for
a flying combat robot, the M.U.S.H.A. or Metallic Uniframe Super
Hybrid Armor (note: MUSHA also means warrior in Japanese).
Here it is
for the fast presentation of the game, now some pictures of MUSHA
ALESTE in the following galleries (sorry for some graphics bugs
caused by emulator) :
